Valerian is noted to have sweet scented flowers and intensely pungent & earthy roots. Valerian root has reportedly been used since ancient Greece and in traditional European folk practices for its calming and sedative properties. It is mostly used as an infusion in the form of tea, but can also be tinctured. It promotes relaxation and helps in coping with stress.

Precautions
Caution is advised during the use of barbiturates, benzodiazepines, and other sedative drugs, as valerian has the potential to increase the effects of some sedatives.
